User Agreement
About Your Account
This user agreement is a contract between you and PesaPlug governing your use of your PesaPlug account and the PesaPlug services. It applies to all PesaPlug accounts globally, regardless of country of residence.
If you are an individual, you must be at least 18 years old, or the legal age of majority in your country of residence, to open a PesaPlug account and use the PesaPlug services. If you are a business, the business must be legally established and operating in its respective country to open a PesaPlug business account.
By opening and using a PesaPlug account, you agree to comply with all of the terms and conditions of this user agreement, including our Fee schedules, and any upcoming changes we communicate to you. These terms include an agreement to resolve disputes by arbitration on an individual basis where permitted by law. You also agree to comply with other terms or agreements that apply to you, including our Acceptable Use Policy and Electronic Communications Delivery Policy.
Please read carefully all of the terms and conditions of this user agreement and each of the other terms and agreements that apply to you.
We may revise this agreement and any of the other terms, agreements, or policies from time to time. The revised version will be effective at the time we post it on our website, unless otherwise noted. If our changes reduce your rights or increase your responsibilities, we will provide notice of such changes.
- For personal accounts, notice will include posting information about the changes on our website. If you accepted this user agreement prior to us posting notice of the changes, such notice will be provided at least 21 days before the applicable effective date.
- For business accounts, notice will include posting information about the changes on our website or providing information about the changes by other written means (which may include email). If you accepted this user agreement prior to us providing notice of the changes, such notice will be provided at least 5 days before the applicable effective date.
By continuing to use our services after any changes, you agree to abide and be bound by those changes. If you do not agree with any updates, you may close your account.
Opening a PesaPlug Account
We offer two types of PesaPlug accounts: personal accounts and business accounts, both covered by this user agreement.
All PesaPlug accounts let you do things like:
- Send and receive money.
- Buy goods or services online, using mobile devices, or in stores.
- Make payments using your credit card, debit card, bank account, or other supported payment options, including funds held as balance in a business account (if the required identifying information you provide has been verified).
- Accept payments from others through supported methods.
You are responsible for maintaining adequate security and control of any and all IDs, passwords, PINs, or other codes that you use to access your PesaPlug account and services. You must keep your mailing address, email address, and other contact information up to date.
Personal accounts
If you are opening a PesaPlug account primarily for personal, family, or household purposes, you must open a personal account. With a personal account, you can:
- Send or request personal transactions with friends and family.
- Buy goods and services.
- Receive money and transfer it to a linked bank account or debit card.
Fees may apply to personal accounts and differ from those for business accounts. Certain business features may not be available to personal accounts. If your personal account is used primarily for business or commercial activity, PesaPlug may require you to convert it to a business account or close it.
Business accounts
If you are opening a PesaPlug account primarily for business or commercial activity, you must open a business account. This applies even if your business is not incorporated. With a business account, you can:
- Sell goods or services or receive donations.
- Use a business or company name on the account.
- Allow employees to access some features of the account.
- Use PesaPlug business products tailored to your needs.
Business accounts may be subject to different fees compared to personal accounts. Business accounts are not eligible to receive “personal transactions,” although they may send them to others with an eligible PesaPlug account.
By opening a business account, you confirm that all payment methods linked are primarily for business or commercial purposes. PesaPlug may, where legally permitted, obtain your personal and/or business credit report when opening or monitoring a business account.
Closing Your PesaPlug Account
You may close your PesaPlug account at any time without cost. However, you remain liable for all obligations related to your account even after closure. Any scheduled or incomplete transactions will be canceled. Funds should be withdrawn or transferred before closing.
You may not close your account if:
- It is under investigation.
- You have pending transactions, disputes, or claims.
- Your account has a negative balance.
- Your account is subject to a hold, limitation, or reserve.
Link or Unlink a Payment Method
You can link or unlink payment methods such as a credit card, debit card, or bank account to your PesaPlug account.
You may need to confirm your payment method. To do this, you authorize us to make small temporary charges or deposits for verification, which will be refunded or confirmed with you.
Authorization to Charge Your Payment Method
By linking a payment method, you authorize PesaPlug to charge it whenever you:
- Send money or make a purchase.
- Resolve errors, claims, or disputes.
- Pay amounts owed to PesaPlug.
You can revoke authorization by unlinking a payment method, but this does not affect transactions already authorized.
Receiving and Transferring Funds
Personal accounts
When you receive money, you may:
- Transfer it to a linked debit card or bank account via standard transfer.
- Transfer it instantly (where available) for an additional disclosed fee.
Business accounts
Funds received may be held as balance in the business account. You may withdraw by:
- Standard transfer to a linked debit card or bank account.
- Instant transfer (where available) for an additional disclosed fee.
Funds held in PesaPlug accounts are not deposits, do not earn interest, and are not covered by deposit insurance.
Taxes and Reporting
It is your responsibility to determine whether taxes apply to your transactions and to report, collect, and remit them to the appropriate authority. PesaPlug is not responsible for tax compliance on your behalf.
Where required by law, PesaPlug may provide information about your transactions to tax authorities. We may also request tax-related documentation from you, and failure to provide it may result in account limitations or withholding of funds.

Account Statements
You have the right to receive an account statement showing your PesaPlug account activity. You may view your PesaPlug account statement by logging into your PesaPlug account.
Sending Money and Buying
Sending Money to a Friend or Family Member
You can send money to a friend or family member as a personal transaction using the Send Money feature in your PesaPlug account. You can send money to a friend or family member even if they don’t yet have an eligible PesaPlug account, by using their email address or mobile number.
We may, at our discretion, impose limits on the amount of money you can send, including money sent for purchases.
Applicable fees for sending personal transactions will be disclosed to you in advance each time you initiate such a transaction.
You may also use the Send Money feature in your account to pay for goods or services. When doing so, you must identify the payment as a commercial transaction. You may not send money as a personal transaction when paying for goods or services.
Buying Something or Making a Donation
You can purchase goods or services, or make a donation to a seller or organization that accepts PesaPlug, using any payment method linked to your account.
When you make such a payment, PesaPlug does not charge you a fee.
Refunds
When you purchase something online using PesaPlug and the transaction is refunded, the money will typically be returned to the original payment method you used.
Selling and Accepting Payments
Accepting Payments
If you use your PesaPlug account to receive payments for goods, services, or donations, you must pay any applicable fees. You must not instruct buyers to send money as personal transactions.
No Surcharges
You may not impose a surcharge or additional fee for accepting PesaPlug as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, provided it is not higher than what you charge for non-PesaPlug transactions.
Presentation of PesaPlug
You must treat PesaPlug payment methods or marks at least on par with other payment methods offered at your point of sale.
Customer Service, Refunds, and Privacy
You must publish:
- Clear customer service contact information.
- A refunds and returns policy.
- A privacy policy, where required by law.
Refunds, Reversals, and Chargebacks
If you receive a payment that is later refunded or invalidated, you are responsible for repaying the full amount plus any applicable fees.
Payments may be reversed by PesaPlug if:
- You lose a claim raised by a buyer.
- You fail to respond to claims or chargebacks.
- You do not fulfill the transaction as agreed.
- PesaPlug sent the payment to you in error.
- The payment was unauthorized.
- The payment violated this agreement.
PesaPlug’s Seller Protection Program
If you sell a good or service, you may be eligible for PesaPlug’s Seller Protection program. When applicable, it may allow you to retain the full purchase amount. Eligibility is determined by PesaPlug, and the program terms form part of this agreement.

Liability for Unauthorized Transactions and Errors
Unauthorized Transactions
PesaPlug will protect you from unauthorized activity on your account if you promptly notify us and cooperate. An “Unauthorized Transaction” means money was sent without your authorization and without benefit to you.

If you delay reporting unauthorized activity, you may be responsible for losses that could have been prevented by timely notice.
Errors

PesaPlug may suspend or terminate this agreement or your access to services at any time with notice. Negative balances represent amounts owed to PesaPlug, and future funds may be used to recover them.
Indemnification and Limitation of Liability
You agree to indemnify and hold PesaPlug harmless from claims, demands, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of this agreement or misuse of the services.
